Experience Central Hawke's Bay Wines
There are many established vineyards throughout the Central Hawke's Bay district.  Our ancient riverbeds and limestone hills mean 'grape country'.  Viticulture has grown rapidly throughout the region's 'Hawke's Bay Wine Country'. 

As well as our locally established wineries, other vineyards planted on argillite near Porangahau Beach in the south and on the banks of the Tuki Tuki River in the north supply grapes to Hawke's Bay wineries.

The Ruahine Range in the west provides a rain shadow effect protecting the vineyards from the wet westerlies, and the Tuki Tuki and Waipawa rivers flow from the mountains across the stony plains, carving a pathway through the limestone hills which run north - south.

The region shows much promise for the cooler climate white varieties and for Pinot Noir.  The altitude here is higher, so the cool climate varieties such as Sauvignon blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Merlot ripen later than in more maritime climate of the northern Hawke's Bay.   The resultant wines have distinctive and attractive aromas and flavours.
